This Healthy Green Smoothie is fresh, thick, creamy, and delicious!
A question that people often ask when they learn that they need to go gluten free - whether with a diagnosis of celiac disease or through an elimination diet - is what to eat for breakfast. There are a number of options! If you're okay with oats, there's Gluten Free granola. Pumpkin Spice Muffins are another option.
However, when you really want to start your day by packing in some nutrients, make yourself this smoothie!
Seven-Ingredient Green Smoothie
This green smoothie has only 7 ingredients. That's enough to make it interesting but few enough to keep it simple.
Coconut Milk
I used coconut milk from the carton for a very nice flavour. You could also use almond milk or cashew milk if you're not concerned about keeping your green smoothie nut free.
Kale
I probably don't need to tell you that kale is good for you! It's combination of high fibre and nutrient density is great for your digestive system. What I may need to tell you is that you'll hardly taste it in this recipe!
Banana
Bananas add a natural sweetness and creamy texture to our green smoothie. While bananas do contain sugar, it's a natural sugar which comes with fibre. Fibre is what makes getting our sugar from whole fruits better than consuming sugars that have been added to foods or separated from their fibre, as in fruit juices. The presence of fibre slows the absorption of sugar into your bloodstream. Bananas also provide us with potassium which maintains proper heart function, magnesium, and vitamins C and B6.
Apple
Apples are extremely rich in important antioxidants, flavanoids, and dietary fibre.
Avocado
Of course, we know that avocados are incredibly nutritious and loaded with healthy monounsaturated fatty acids.
Medjool Dates
Medjool dates have been called "the healthiest sugar alternative" because of their combination of vitamins, minerals, and fibre.
Hemp Hearts
Hemp hearts, or seeds, are are exceptionally rich in two essential fatty acids, linoleic acid (omega-6) and alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3). More than 25% of their calories comes from high quality protein.
Have I convinced you yet? You'll want to enjoy this smoothie often!
