    Spinach Apple Smoothie Benefits

I love that we get the health benefits of the rich, green chlorophyl in raw spinach without really tasting it! Spinach provides vitamin K for bone support, vitamin A, Vitamin C for immune support and skin health, folate for red blood cells and DNA, and a variety of other nutrients.

This spinach, apple, banana smoothie is dairy free, vegan, and can even be nut free if you make it with coconut milk. The kind that comes in a carton will work fine here.

This recipe yields one large 16-ounce (about 500 ml) serving or two smaller ones.

    Ingredients

apple, spinach, banana, milk, and hemp seeds in individual containers with labels
    • Apple - Use whatever kind of apple you happen to have on hand. It's not necessary to peel it if you have a high-speed blender.
    • Spinach - Fresh, small spinach leaves have the mildest flavour. I usually purchase the baby spinach that comes pre-washed in a clamshell container.
    • Banana - Use either a peeled, fresh banana or chunks of frozen banana.
    • Nondairy Milk - Either almond milk or cashew milk work well here. For a nut-free smoothie, I recommend the coconut milk that comes in a carton.
    • Hemp Hearts - or hemp seeds, are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids and plant-based protein.

    Instructions

Simply combine all of the ingredients for your spinach apple smoothie in a blender.

    Recipe FAQ's and Tips

    Are spinach smoothies healthy?

Yes, green smoothies that contain fresh vegetables like spinach are very healthy for you. Avoid any that contain artificial ingredients or added sugars.

Can I put raw spinach in a smoothie?

Yes. Putting raw spinach into a smoothie is a great way to reap the leafy green's nutritional benefits. Antioxidants that can be destroyed during cooking are maintained when you eat it raw.

Does spinach taste good in smoothies?

Spinach has a mild flavour and blends smoothly and easily with a high speed blender, so it's a great addition to smoothies.

I haven't tried the recipe with frozen spinach, but I think it would work. Just keep in mind that frozen spinach is very compressed, so you won't need much of it.

I'm so happy that you're trying to incorporate more greens, Angelic. That's a very good thing to do! Yes, I count this smoothie as my breakfast. Good luck with quitting caffeine. I would suggest cutting back gradually rather than stopping suddenly, as I think that makes it easier to do. I hope you love your Apple Spinach smoothie! If you do, I would very much appreciate your giving the recipe a 5-star rating. That will help more people to find it.

That's a good question, Madihah. I have not tested this recipe with regular milk. I would be concerned that the apple might make the milk taste sour. Water might be a better option, but I'm only guessing.
